  14. <p>    DIED. Steve Rubell, 45, flamboyant co-founder of Studio 54,
  15. the trend setting Manhattan discotheque; of complications from
  16. hepatitis and septic shock; in New York City. During the late
  17. 1970s, when publicity-seeking celebrities like Andy Warhol,
  18. Liza Minnelli and Bianca Jagger flocked to Studio 54, Rubell and
  19. his longtime partner, Ian Schrager, were the kings of Manhattan
  20. night life. The party came to an end in 1979, when the two were
  21. convicted of tax evasion. After serving one-year prison terms,
  22. Rubell and Schrager started successful hotel ventures and a new
  23. Manhattan night spot, the Palladium.
